The House in Campo Alegre is a project that combines the unique and exclusive conditions of the land with the organic layout of the living spaces, facilitating their comfortable enjoyment, which enhances them. The house is built on a horizontal platform, on a piece of land at the top of the slope overlooking the Douro, exposed to the South.
The visual horizon is wide and privileged. It opens onto the Douro River and a large stretch of the Vila Nova de Gaia bank. The platform is significantly lower than the street that serves the property. This circumstance ensures the house protection from noise and conceals it. Thus, the residence has no presence on the street that provides access to it. Its configuration provides particularly effective privacy conditions. The surroundings of the Casa no Campo Alegre are predominantly wooded. This contributes to the uniqueness of this house, located in one of the most urbanized areas of Porto.
The house develops on a single floor, though with two levels. The creation of these levels is a strategy that allows for southern solar exposure to the secondary bedrooms that would not otherwise have it. At the same time, it makes the use of these bedrooms more autonomous and independent from the other functional spaces in the residence. The favorable solar exposure of the living quarters and the circulation areas between them was maximized, as was the magnificent visual horizon from the main bedroom, the living rooms, and the library. These compartments share a south-facing deck protected from the prevailing wind.
